Homes for Holsworthy wins national award!

by | 17th June 2013

Homes for Holsworthy are national winners of an award for the Most Entrepreneurial Community Land Trust, presented at the National Community Land Trust conference in Birmingham on 12th June.

Homes for Holsworthy Chair, Pam Johns, said “There was stiff competition from other CLTs in this category. We knew that we were among the finalists but it was a lovely surprise when we were announced as winners”. The award recognises the flexible approach that Homes for Holsworthy takes to providing homes that local people can afford. With four different schemes completed and several more in planning the Trust recognises that “one size doesn’t fit all”. Pam says “It’s very much a case of responding to opportunities to see what will work best in a particular situation. With such a shortage in the intermediate housing market for both rental and sale to local families, it’s vital that we look beyond the traditional routes and become more innovative.

There is a fast-growing Community Land Trust movement throughout the country with more than 20 enquiries a week to the CLT National Network about setting up new organisations. CLTs offer a way to provide affordable housing and other amenities to local communities, ensuring that the benefit remains within that community.
